JICA provides add’l support to DENR project

-
The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is providing additional support to community-based forest management (CBFM) project of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

Last  Aug. 16, JICA approved the implementation of a follow-up program to assist people’s organizations proposing to undertake small CBFM projects. Called follow-up activities (FUSA)  for people’s organizations’, then undertaking was proposed by  the project’s training component composed of JICA’s Hideo Ishida and  director Adeluisa G. Siapno and supported by Hideki Miyakawa and Marcial Amaro, the project advisor and director, respectively.

FUSA is a form of assistance to POs in Region 3 whose proposed projects are found to be potentially beneficial to the enhancement of the environment and to the socio-economic condition of the stakeholders.

To further boost the effective implementation of project, three DENR officials and five technical staff are slated to attend training programs in Japan on CBFM policy and CBFM, respectively.

Meanwhile, a training on agroforestry for POs will be held on Sept. 4-9.

Now on its third year of implementation, the five-year project for technical cooperation, has brought positive changes in  five CBFM areas selected as model sites  all located in the provinces of Region 3, Central Luzon, as well as to the implementers and stakeholders whose capabilities on CBFM implementation were enhanced through various capability building activities.  CBFM    .

This year, three more model sites in the region will be launched. — Benny Enriquez
