NFA assures rice supply, prices during lean months

-
The National Food Authority (NFA) will intensify rice distribution by putting up additional rolling stores during the lean months which start next month until September this year.

At present, there are 233 units of rolling stores currently being deployed nationwide. Of this number, 103 units are privately operated and the remaining 130 are NFA-operated.

Consumers are treated to low prices of basic commodities available through these rolling stores. A 50g x 60 coffee brand is priced between P25 and P32; sardines is sold between P7 and P8; noodles, between P4.25 and P4.50 while cooking oil is sold at the range from P15 to P17.50.

The NFA also continues to sell rice at P18 per kilogram through existing Bigasan ni Gloria sa Palengke (BGP) outlets situated inside major public markets nationwide. Inflation has been recorded at only 5.6 percent last month, which means that consumers were able to extend the value of their pesos as an effect of the stable supply and price of rice nationwide.

Meanwhile, the NFA regularly deploys monitoring teams to strictly monitor the regular supply and stable prices of rice. Rice trading will be dealt with accordingly.

By October, the main harvest will be starting prices, which are expected to soften as supply increases by November.

For more information on NFA programs, the public may send their concerns via the Text NFA program through mobile number 0917-6210927.
