Coconut farmers set summit
March 12, 2006 | 12:00am
LUCENA CITY Coconut farmers from Quezon will hold a summit on the coconut levy fund issue on March 20 at the Quezon Convention Center this city under the auspices of the provinces Sangguniang Panlalawigan.
Among those invited as panelists are PCGG Chairman Camilio Sabio, former Sen. Bobby Tañada and former Rep. Oscar Santos.
Holding of the summit was arrived at following the presentation by lawyer Eladio Pasamba, member of the provincial board, of a resolution seeking support to the initiative of Sabio to settle the long-standing issue through a compromise agreement within the year.
Pasamba sees the compromise as the most plausible solution to the long standoff which has been going on for the past 20 years. If left to the courts, resolution of the case will last beyond the lifetime of claimants, it is feared.
