Its a liquid biochemical product that contains Bacillus subtilis isolates (from Taiwan soil) and Thiobacillus sp. Having fungicidal property and antagonistic biomaterials against microbial pathogens (disease-causing organisms.)
A study done by G.M. Monis of the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU), a multi-campus school in La Union, found that Biosol can minimize the harmful effects of raw sewage from background hog raising.
The research is titled "Effectiveness of Biosol DPER wasterwater treatment using gravity flow batch type water purified system." DPER stands for DMMMSU Piggery Extension and Research Farm.
Monis conducted the study following the observation that backyard hog raising has hastened the pollution of small waterways and rivers. When left untreated, wastewater may seep into potable water resources and pose danger to human health.
Results showed that all the Biosol treatments (one milliliter, 20 mL, and 40 mL per 20 L of wastewater filtered through the gravity flow batch type water purifier system) improved the wastewater quality of Class C using the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) standard for fresh surface water.
The total syspended solids (TSS) also decreased with increasing levels of Biosol treatment. Moreover, activated carbon or charcoal in the gravity flow purifier system reduced the door of the treated wastewater.
Water treated with Biosol and filtered through the gravity purified system also can be used as irrigation water and can be classified under Class D freshwater supply. RAF
