Environmental educators gather to address poverty

Over 100 university administrators and educators gathered to address concerns and issues on poverty during the 10th National Senior Educators Assembly in Environmental Protection and Management held in Tagaytay City on Oct. 13 to 14. Under this years theme Environmental Education in Poverty Alleviation Taking up the Challenge poverty alleviation was elaborated on as an element of education for sustainable development and showcased academe and industry linkages with communities for poverty alleviation.
Messages highlighting the value of environmental education in social development and the relevance of the assembly towards this end, were delivered by the lead speakers, namely: asst. director Fernandino Concepcion, Environmental Management Bureau; director Gil Laquindanum, mining group of the Board of Investments (BOI); Dr. Ruth Guzman, chairperson of the board of directors, Philippine Association of Tertiary Level Educational Institutions in Environmental Protection and Management (PATLEPAM); and VP for research, extension and information services of the Rizal Technological University; Dr. Isabel Inlayo of the Commission on Higher Education-Region IV-A; and Amelia Dulce Supetran, environment portfolio manager of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
The Assembly was part of the preparation for the promotion of development that is socially desirable, economically viable and ecologically sustainable, the pillars of a strong sustainable condition as envisioned by heads of states.
