Pinoy bags Asian Pig Person of the Year Award

Dr. Zoilo M. Lapuz, renowned swine practitioner, was named "Asian Pig Person of 2005" at the recently well-attended VIV Asia, the continents premier livestock event, in Bangkok, Thailand.
Cited in the Asian pig sector, Lapus is the resident host and specialist for Novartis "Payo in Doc" radio and TV programs, trainer for pig production workshops in Korea and Thailand, and writer for various publications such as the "International Pig Topics" and the "Agriculture" magazine of the Manila Bulletin.
He has made his mark in upgrading the knowledge of backyard hog farmers through seminars, personal interactions and information dissemination by way of print, radio and TV. He also serves as a consultant for several top farms here and abroad.
Incumbent president of the Asian Pig Veterinary Society (APVS), Lapus said the "2nd APVS Congress 2005" will be held Sept. 19-21 at the Edsa Shangri-La. It will be attended by delegates and speakers from Japan, Korea, Thailand, China, Taiwan, India, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, U.S.A., Czechoslovakia, Russia, France, Australia and the Philippines.
"The conference is expected to strengthen relationships among Asian pork producers and related organizations in addressing issues on environment, animal welfare, quality assurance and genetic improvement," said Lapus.
