An engineer-farmer from Nueva Vizcaya

- Ramon Ma. Epino -
The head of the irrigation section of Nueva Viscaya provincial engineering office is a successful fruit tree farmer on weekends. Cesar G. Verano farms a 1.5-hectare orchard in Matubbunan, Quezon, Nueva Viscaya with 380 Satsuma orange trees.

He is now harvesting two crates (40 kilos each) every week. That would be P2,400 (80 kilos x P30 wholesale price per kilo) in one week and P9,600 every month. The trees are now three years old. A year ago when the trees were only two years old, their development and recovery from damage after the typhoons was slow.

Things started to look up after he used Exquisite soil conditioner for plant growth and bio-organic fertilizer for flower inducement: (1) Satsuma tree bears an average of 45 fruits weighing 15 kilos for an average of five pieces per kilo – at times seven fruits weighs two kilos (as shown in photo); (2) Sweeter in taste, greener in color and bigger in size; (3) Fruit-bearing is not seasonal that helps in fetching higher prices.

The products’ other advantages are: (1) Faster growth with more leaves (wider canopy) and bigger and durable stems and roots and bigger trunks that withstand strong typhoons; (2) pests and diseases were gone; scavs disease diminishes with the extermination of leaf miners; (3) Light colored leaves turn into lush green.

Verano has other fruit trees that are only starting to flower: 70 ponkan oranges and 100 Red-Chandler big pomelo.

The Exquisite soil conditioner promotes faster and bigger growth, higher yields aside from savings on fertilizer, pesticide and chemistry hormone. It is made up of Bacillus Cohn belonging to the category of plant growth inducing rhizobacterial product.

The bio-organic fertilizer is a complex metabolite extract from microbe using deep-layer fermenting technology, a pure biological product and a non-chemical compound substance. It promotes flowering and fruiting; prevents plant senescence and flower/fruit loss.

The products are available in 10-gram sachets costing P56 each. Each sachet is good for 20 liters of water. One pair is enough for 1,000 square meters of farm. For inquiries call tells. 929-1895 and mobile phone no. 0917-326-5503.
