Youth voice concern over water problem

"Youth, Take Charge. . .Save Water, Save Lives." This was the theme of the poster-making and eassy-writing contests organized by the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the WorldBankManila office held Feb. 28 at the Youth Camp, Marikina River Park, Marikina City.
DENR Undersecretary Rolando Metin, one of the judges said, "it is quite reassuring how well-versed and insightful the contest participants were in discussing and illustrating the issues of water conservation and management that beset our country today. We hope to see more enlightened students who will be future stewards of our environment."
Winners in the poster-making contest were: first prize Willard D. Malones (Vel Maris School, Cavite); second John Wilson Ibasco (Carlos P. Garcia High School, Manila); third Lance Kirby Yaneza (San Juan National School, San Juan).
For the essay-writing contest, winners were: first Laarni Zulueta-Rivandeniera (Makati High School - Main, Makati) second Daphny A. Grumo (Antonio A. Maceda Integrated School, Manila); third Valeria Baricua (Batasan Hills National High School, Quezon City)
Consolation prizes were also awarded to the following poster-making contest entries: Raymond Tubo of Sta. Elena High School, Rodulf Serrano of Antonio Maceda Integrated School, Margarett Mendoza of Roosevelt College, Pamela Jean Bahala of Blessed Mary Academy, Janelle Yu of Manila Patriotic School, Jovanne Dimasupil of Rizal High School Annex, and John Bahrain Aure de Leon of Raja Soliman High School.
For the essay-writing contest, the following were given consolation prizes: Don Michael Acelar de Leon of Makati Science High School, Argie Candane Aguja of Carlos P. Garcia High School, Mary Candice Ramos of Sta. Elena High School, Ma. Kristel Belle Fajardo of Las Piñas East National High School, Sheena Jeswani of Colegio San Agustin Makati, Meryl Tracey Arahan of Diliman Preparatory School, and Minaru Lou DC Nazario of Roosevelt College.
