Iloilo researchers develop feed milling equipment

-
A village-type feed milling equipment has been developed by the Central Philippine University (CPU) in Iloilo City.

Designed and fabrication by CPU researchers Alexis Belonia, Aries Roda Remallosa, and Roney Genanda, the machines were installed and their performance was evaluated in San Lorenzo, Guimaras.

"Using the machines can help feed processors realize an annual net income as high as P780,000 to P1.14 million from producing hog feeds," the researchers stated, as reported by PCARRD’s Ofelia Domingo.

Total investment is P450,000, which can be recovered in less than a year.

The processing plant in Guimaras consists of a hammer mill and a feed mixer, both driven by electric motor through a generator.

The hammer mill can grind 30 kilograms of shelled corn per hour, with actual output of 1,600 kg/day of corn grits. The vertical feed mixer can mix feeds at 300 kg/load, with production of 1,500 kg of mixed feeds per day.

"This technology is appropriate for cooperatives, municipal government projects, and training institutions," the researchers said. – RAF
