Davao inmates taught how to make sandals

The Tagum Agricultural Co. Inc. (Tadeco), producer and exporter of cavendish bananas, sponsors sandal-making classes for the Davao Prison and Penal Farm (Dapecol) inmates that will begin early next month.

This sandal-making training is the second of the four series of skills training seminar that Tadeco implemented to provide Dapecol inmates a sociable and informative venue for learning and development.

According to Tadeco chairman Antonio O. Floirendo Sr., the series of trainings is part of the company’s livelihood program which is committed to build a "progressive and dynamic community that values diversity, embraces vigilance and cares for the environment, thus empowered and self-reliant." Floirendo adds, "we want to give them (inmates) new hope for them to be inspired to face better days and better years ahead. While they are in prison, we want to provide them with learning tools designed to uplift their socio-economic conditions."

Dapecol Supt. Vicente Tesoro expressed appreciation for the endless efforts and support of Tadeco in helping them re-educate and rehabilitate Dapecol inmates. "We have been the beneficiary of Tadeco’s educa-tion and develop-ment programs for many years, we hope and pray that this wonderful partnership will continue to grow as we help more and more people succeed in life," said Supt. Tesoro.

Trainers for the said activity are Technical Education and Skills Develop-ment Authority (TESDA) accredited. The other trainings set this year are tailoring and Graft Design and T-shirt printing.
