Caraga Grade 6 pupil wins poster making contest

-
The judges’ artistic comments say it all! The concept and the rendition belie the youth of the grade school artists who participated in the "Nationwide World Food Day Poster Making Contest" sponsored by the Department of Agriculture. The entries all look fine works of art by mature artists – some even show signs of professional painters. The kid artists let their imagination run without limits involving the theme "Water: Source of Food Security" in celebration of the World Food Day 2002."

In the end, some will shine through in the midst of many entries – 47 from the 16 regions of the country.

The national grand prize winner is: Christopher P. Tamis from CARAGA, a grade 6 pupil of Agusan del Sur Pilot Laboratory School in Agusan del Sur. He takes home P10,000 and a trophy.

Consolation prize winners are: Camille C. Garcia of Calbayog Pilot School in Calbayog City (Region 8); Al Adriz Garcia of Tacurong Pilot Elementary School in Sultan Kudarat (Region 12); Maruel V. Eroyla of Tetuan Central School in Zamboanga City (Region 9); and Mary Karl Buenasflores of University of San Agustin in Iloilo City (Region 6). Each of the four receives P5,000 and a trophy.

Each of the winning schools receive a plaque of appreciation. All the prizes are donated by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

Prof. Gerardo M. Tan, dean of the College of Fine Arts, University of the East serves as the chairman of the board of judges composed also of artist Michael Blanco and FAO Representative Lien Jones.

Chairperson of the sub-committee of the contest is DA-AFIS Director Inez G. Magbual; vice chairperson is Celeste Villena (NAFC). There are seven other members, namely: Jo Ann Grace B. Pera (AFIS), Arlhene Sarmiento (AFIS), Sarah Lacson (FAO), Shirley Pascua (NAFC), Vivian Ledesma (NAFC), Delia Jimenez (NNC) and Owen Milambilang (DepEd).

The rich harvest of fine arts came from grade 5 and grade 6 students, ages ranging from nine years to 12 years. Before reaching the national final, all the 46 finalists run through the gamut of school competition through district and division levels.
