DENR, SM launch environmental project

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the SM Group of Companies forged recently a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to cooperate in protecting the environment.

The MOU was signed by Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Heherson T. Alvarez and SM senior vice president Hans T. Sy in ceremonies held at the Atrium A, SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City.

The signing was part of a program with the theme "SM, An Environmental Protection Partner Through the Years." The program was hosted by television personality Kathy Santillan and Sixto Tolentino, director for the National Capital Region of the Environmental Management Bureau under the DENR.

The event is a result of the EMB-NCR programs, more particularly the EMB-Industry Cooperation in Promoting the Objectives of the Philippine Environmental Partnership program. it is also a manifestation of the SM Group’s commitment to sound environmental management in its business operation.

Part of the ceremonies was a video presentation on the different ways by which plastic containers of SM are being reused by customers. There were also lectures on various subjects involving environmental protection. — Benny Enriquez
