Cement bonded board model house inaugurated

A cement bonded board (CBB) model house made from waste treatment sludge of a paper recycling mill in Mabalacat, Pampanga was inaugurated last Friday, with Sen. Ramon B. Magsaysay Jr. as guest of honor.

The CBB house is a project of Trust International Paper Corp. (TIPCO) in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Industry and Energy Research and Development (DOST-PCIERD), University of the Philippines Los Baños—College of Forestry and Natural Resources—Department of Forest Products and Paper Science (UPLB-CFNR-DFPPS) and the UPLB Foundation, Inc.

Started Nov. 29, 1999, the project aims to utilize paper sludge to produce cement bonded boards as construction and building material.

Willy Chua, TIPCO executive vice president, announced that "after rigorous experimentation, research and study, the project is a success."— RAF
