PSE elects new board

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Stock Exchange Inc. (PSE) has welcomed three new directors to its 15-member board who were elected during the company’s annual stockholders’ meeting yesterday.
Elected as new independent directors were Jikyeong Kang and Niek Johan van Veen, while Lorenzo Andres Roxas was named as new regular director.
Roxas, a longtime Philippine brokerage executive and former head of Maybank ATR Kim Eng Securities, replaced Wilson Sy, a regular director who opted out due to health reasons.
Kang and Van Veen, meanwhile, replaced Vicente Panlilio, who has reached his ninth year, and Jose Pardo, a former independent director who has been moved to a regular director representing other market participants.
Pardo also remains as PSE chairman.
“We have Jikyeong Kang, who is the president and dean of the Asian Institute of Management. We think her international expertise will bring some good parts of governance to the exchange,” PSE president and CEO Ramon Monzon said in an online briefing yesterday.
Monzon, who was appointed to lead the PSE in May 2017, is currently the longest-serving president of the company.
“The other independent director we elected was Niek van Veen. He’s a Dutch guy who’s an IT (information technology) and AI (artificial intelligence) expert. We really sought him out because, as you know, the PSE is a technology company. All our trading platforms are IT-based. So we really sought out a director who could guide PSE in its IT and AI journey. And I think Niek van Veen will fill those shoes,” Monzon said.
The board of the PSE is composed of one president-director, five broker directors and nine non-broker directors.
Of the nine non-broker directors, five are independent directors and four are directors representing the interests of issuers, investors and other market participants.
Aside from Monzon, Pardo, Roxas, Kang and Van Veen, other elected members of the PSE board for 2026 to 2027 were former transportation secretary Jaime Bautista (independent director), former trade secretary Peter Favila (independent director), retired Chief Justice Teresita Leonardo-de Castro (independent director), Cecile Ang (non-broker director), Jose Arnulfo Veloso ((non-broker director), Marilyn Victorio-Aquino (non-broker director), Diosdado Arroyo (director), Eddie Gobing (director), Anthony Te (director) and Ma. Vivian Yuchengco (director).
