Chicken output rises 5.8% in Q1

MANILA, Philippines —The country’s chicken production increased by 5.8 percent from January to March, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

In a quarterly bulletin, the PSA reported that local chicken production rose to 585,470 metric tons in the first quarter from 553,450 MT in the same period last year.

Central Luzon remained the top producer among all regions in the country with a total output of 195,420 MT, making up 33.4 percent of total.

This is followed by Calabarzon at 111,090 MT, Northern Mindanao at 47,100 MT, Davao Region at 31,630 MT and Soccsksargen producing 30,310 MT.

“Relative to their outputs in the same quarter of 2025, 13 regions reported increases in their production during the reference quarter,” the PSA said.

Broiler chicken accounted for 87.2 percent of all production during the period, followed by native/improved chicken with 11.1 percent, culled layer chicken with 1.4 percent and gamefowl at 0.3 percent.

The report noted that Central Luzon logged the highest output of broiler chicken at 186,160 MT and culled layer chicken at 3,190 MT.

Northern Mindanao saw the highest native/improved chicken production at 11,520 MT, while Calabarzon had the highest output for gamefowl at 519,140 MT.

The country’s chicken population also went up by 1.9 percent during the three month period, reaching 224.96 million birds from 221.39 million.

The population of layer chicken expanded by 12.2 percent, while broiler chicken also increased by 2.4 percent.

On the other hand, native/improved chicken declined by 5.1 percent, while gamefowl population dropped by 1.3 percent.

The PSA said that the average farmgate price of broiler chicken was at P120.51 per kilo, a 4.7- percent decline from the P126.44 per kilo the same period last year.
