MANILA, Philippines — The number of construction projects based on approved building permits went up by two percent in March from a year ago, but the value dipped year-on-year, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

Preliminary data from the PSA showed that construction projects from approved building permits reached 16,066 in March, up from 15,750 in the same month last year.

However, the value of these projects declined slightly to P49.07 billion in March from P49.33 billion in the same month last year.

The bulk or 62 percent of construction projects in March was accounted for by residential buildings.

In particular, residential projects reached 9,955 in March, up by one percent from 9,843 projects in the same month in 2025.

Residential projects amounted to P18.70 billion in March, up slightly from P18.64 billion in the same month last year.

Meanwhile, non-residential projects had a 23-percent share and reached 3,663 in March, up by 4.9 percent from the 3,491 projects in the same period a year ago.

Non-residential building projects were valued at P24.87 billion in March, eight percent higher than the P23.09 billion recorded in the same month of 2025.

Those involving additions or increases in the height or area of an existing building, climbed by 12 percent to 667 projects in March from 595 in the same month a year ago.

The value of additions grew by 48 percent to P831.55 million in March from P563.29 million in the same month last year.

Meanwhile, alteration and repairs declined by 12 percent to 1,214 projects in March from 1,376 projects a year ago.

Alteration and repair projects in March were valued at P4.1 billion, down by 30 percent from P5.84 billion in the same month last year.

Other construction projects increased by 27 percent to 567 in March from 445 in the same period a year ago.

In terms of value, other construction projects fell by 53 percent to P571.44 million in March from P1.21 billion last year.
