Converge tapped as official ISP for ASEAN Summit

MANILA, Philippines — Broadband giant Converge ICT Solutions Inc. will serve as the internet service provider (ISP) for the Philippine hosting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit.
Converge CEO and co-founder Dennis Anthony Uy yesterday said his company has been hired to provide broadband services for the event from May 6 to 8.
As the summit’s official ISP, Converge committed to deliver gigabit levels of download speed, or as fast as five Gbps, in meeting venues and select locations nationwide.
Uy said the service would be activated from the receiving gateways of Ninoy Aquino International Airport and Mactan-Cebu International Airports. It will also cover five-star hotels where some of the high-level meetings are scheduled.
Converge has placed broadband services in at least 11 sites in Metro Manila and Cebu. It is deploying fiber internet to Mactan Expo Center, NUSTAR Resort and Casino Cebu, Diamond Hotel Manila, The Peninsula Manila, among others.
“From the airports to meeting venues, Converge is supporting the ASEAN meetings with gigabit connectivity,” Uy said.
“We will also provide uninterrupted, five Gbps speeds to the biggest event in this series of meetings for the 48th ASEAN Summit to be held in the newly opened Mactan Expo Center this May,” he added.
Apart from catering to the internet requirements of the summit’s onsite functions, Converge will also support the broadband requirements of the 650 preparatory meetings that were moved online in the aftermath of rising fuel prices.
Information Secretary Henry Aguda underscored the importance of hiring Converge as official ISP for the summit. Converge emerged as the provider to beat in the maiden monitor prepared by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).
Under the DICT’s Oplan Bantay Signal, Converge led all ISPs on broadband speed, recording an average of 193.61 Mbps in Metro Manila across over 700,000 tests from subscribers. The ISP is also the leading provider in other metrics, including latency, reaching just 10.67 milliseconds.
Further, Converge is pushing southward of the archipelago, as it aims to build more than 900,000 ports in Visayas and Mindanao this year to expand its fiber assets.
For 2026, Converge plans to spend as much as P23 billion for capital expenditures, as it firms up its position as the country’s second largest broadband provider.
