Ilocos Norte turns 208 years old

LAOAG CITY, Philippines — Ilocos Norte marks its 208th foundation anniversary today, kicking off a month-long celebration that highlights the province’s heritage alongside initiatives for community development and cultural preservation.
Gov. Cecilia Araneta-Marcos will lead the opening celebration with the distribution of P95 million worth of assistance and projects benefiting around 2,800 recipients, including community members, frontline workers and livelihood sector representatives.
Programs supporting agriculture and fisheries, such as the provision of tools, livestock and supplies, will be launched alongside the turnover of disaster preparedness equipment and service vehicles to local government units.
The anniversary celebrations will culminate on Feb. 28 with “Tan-ok ni Ilocano: Festival of Festivals,” the province’s flagship cultural event that brings together local festivals from across the province.
Marcos said this year’s celebration aims to showcase Ilocos Norte’s commitment to tourism, livelihood programs and community development as well as ensure that cultural pride and progress remain at the heart of the province’s journey.
