MANILA, Philippines — Finance Secretary Frederick Go has joined the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas’ (BSP) Monetary Board.

In a statement on Thursday, January 8, the BSP said that BSP Governor and Monetary Board Chairman Eli Remolona Jr. administered the oath of office to Go as the newest member of the Monetary Board.

Go was designated by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to serve as the Cabinet secretary to the board, succeeding former finance secretary and current Executive Secretary Ralph Recto.

His appointment completes the seven-member council, joining Governor Remolona and fellow board members Benjamin Diokno, Romeo Bernardo, Rosalia De Leon, Jose Querubin and Walter Wassmer.

The Monetary Board is responsible for formulating and implementing monetary policy and supervising the country’s financial system.

Prior to his current role at the Department of Finance, Go served as Special Assistant to the President for Investment and Economic Affairs.

In that capacity, according to the BSP, he coordinated the implementation of the country’s primary economic and investment policies.

He also chaired the Economic Development Group and maintained high-level collaboration with various government agencies, including the Department of Budget and Management, the Department of Trade and Industry and the Securities and Exchange Commission.
