MANILA, Philippines — Broadcast giant GMA Network Inc. is investing in a new technology that would enhance content distribution overseas in line with efforts to future-proof the business.

GMA yesterday announced that it has signed a tie-up with solutions provider Synamedia and its local partner Telered Technologies and Services Corp. for the adoption of internet protocol (IP) in airing international channels.

The deal, through Synamedia’s Quortex Link service, enables GMA to distribute its international channels GMA Pinoy TV, GMA Life TV and GMA News TV in a more cost-efficient way.

Quortex Link allows GMA to expand the coverage of its international units in markets where it would be most in-demand. Further, the platform ensures that even as GMA widens presence, its content would maintain a high level of quality for viewing.

GMA first vice president and head of international operations Joseph Francia said the company reduced its expenses when it transitioned from satellite to IP.

Given this, GMA expects to incur more savings once Quortex Link is maximized.

Quortex Link, a pay-as-you-use service, simplifies the way that content creators like GMA reach their audience by removing the need to build fresh infrastructure to enter a new market.

“With Synamedia’s technology and support and also Telered’s technical expertise and end-to-end capabilities, we have simplified workflows, reduced complexity and improved efficiency across the board,” Francia said.
