MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine automotive industry registered flat sales in October from the same month a year ago as demand for passenger cars declined.

Data from the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. (CAMPI) and Truck Manufacturers Association showed that their combined sales reached 40,014 units in October, nearly unchanged from 40,003 units in the same month last year.

Passenger car sales dropped by 19 percent to 8,155 units in October from 10,043 units in the same month last year.

Meanwhile, commercial vehicle sales went up by seven percent to 31,859 units in October from the previous year’s 29,860 units.

Sales of electrified vehicles reached 3,603 units in October.

These electrified vehicles covered 3,044 units of hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), 284 battery electric vehicles (BEV) and 275 plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV).

From January to October, CAMPI and TMA’s combined sales dipped by 0.2 percent to 383,424 units from 384,310 units in the same period last year.

Sales of passenger cars dropped by 23 percent to 77,461 units in the January to October period from 100,809 units in the same period in 2024.

Commercial vehicle sales, on the other hand, climbed by eight percent to 305,963 units in the 10-month period from the previous year’s 283,502 units.

Electrified vehicle sales as of end-October reached 24,265 units.

Of the total electrified vehicle sales in the January to October period, 19,379 units are HEVs, 3,941 units are BEVs and 945 units are PHEVs.

Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. remained the leading automotive firm in the country through its 48.30 percent market share in the January to October period.

Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corp. placed second with an 18.97 percent market share, while Ford Motor Co. Philippines Inc. ranked third with a 4.86 percent share.

Getting the fourth spot was Suzuki Philippines Inc. with a 4.77 percent share, followed by Nissan Philippines Inc. with 4.73 percent.
