PCC clears Robinsons Retail’s acquisition of Premiumbikes

MANILA, Philippines — Robinsons Retail Holdings Inc. (RRHI)’s motorcycle retailing venture will kick into high gear following the Philippine Competition Commission (PCC)’s approval of the company’s acquisition of Premiumbikes Corp.
RRHI, through its wholly owned subsidiary Robinson’s Supermarket Corp., acquired Premiumbikes from tycoon Lance Gokongwei, in a deal that was announced in July.
The company said the milestone fulfilled one of the key closing conditions of the transaction and allows both parties to proceed with finalizing the deal.
“We see long-term potential in Premiumbikes and look forward to its successful integration into the Robinsons Retail ecosystem,” RRHI president and CEO Stanley Co said.
A share purchase agreement was previously executed for RRHI’s acquisition of 100 percent of Premiumbikes for P146.4 million.
Co said the acquisition represents the company’s entry into a fast-growing and profitable motorcycle segment.
“It strengthens our commitment to build a more diversified and future-ready portfolio that caters to the changing lifestyles and needs of Filipino consumers,” he said.
Premiumbikes general manager Joselito Pojol said the integration of the company into RRHI’s portfolio opens opportunities to strengthen its operations.
As of September, the company operates 215 stores nationwide.
Premiumbikes has also demonstrated consistent profitability in recent years, recording net sales of P4.2 billion in 2024, up by 15.2 percent year-on-year.
“We look forward to leveraging Robinsons Retail’s nationwide presence and deep retail expertise to deliver better value and service to our customers,” Pojol said.
RRHI said the rising demand for motorcycles, combined with relatively low ownership levels, indicates significant long-term potential for the segment.
It said that motorcycle ownership in the Philippines stands at one motorcycle for every eight people, compared to 4:1 in Indonesia and Vietnam and 3:1 in Thailand, based on various industry reports.
As one of the country’s largest multi-format retailers, RRHI has an expansive network of food stores, drugstores, department stores, do-it-yourself stores and specialty stores.
