MANILA, Philippines — It’s sweet 16 for the Robinsons Retail Holdings Inc. (RRHI)’s sponsorship of the University of the Philippines Men’s Basketball Team (UP-MBT).

RRHI, Universal Robina Corp. Agro-Industrial Group (URC-AIG) and NowheretogobutUP Foundation renewed on Monday their partnership and support for the UP-MBT this UAAP Season 88.

“This is our 16th year of sponsoring the UP men’s basketball team,” RRHI chairman Robina Gokongwei-Pe said.

“People asked me why did we even sponsor a team that was doing 0-14, and I said you know, this is about giving back to your school because you owe your success to your school,” she said.

RRHI’s sponsorship of the UP-MBT started in 2010, in which the team posted a record of zero wins and 14 losses.

URC-AIG, for its part, joined the sponsorship in 2018 through its TopBreed brand.

“It’s really the shared vision, goals, teamwork and resiliency because we were brought up that way that we have to fight for everything we want. We have to work and we have to really put in the elbow grease to get things done. And we see that in the UP community and the team itself how we have risen again from all the trials,” URC-AIG managing director Vincent Henry Go said.

“We’re so proud to be part of this journey with the group. Robina has been supporting for 16 years. Sorry, I have to admit but we’re late believers as TopBreed has only been part of this for eight years. Well, eight years is not bad. It’s Season 88,” Go said.

RRHI and URC-AIG’s renewal of their sponsorship of the UP-MBT reflects their commitment to fostering athletic excellence and community spirit.
