Innovation, human ingenuity in focus at geothermal confab

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The National Geothermal Association of the Philippines (NGAP) will host the 6th Philippine International Geothermal Conference (PIGC6) on Sept. 10 to 11, 2025, at The Fifth at Rockwell, R5 Level, Power Plant Mall, Plaza Drive, Rockwell Center, Makati City, Metro Manila.

PIGC6, with the theme “Flash Point: Igniting Human Ingenuity and Geothermal Innovation,” will serve as a venue for the exchange of strategies, innovations and insights focused on advancing sustainable geothermal development in the Philippines.

The conference will also provide valuable networking opportunities designed to foster collaboration and knowledge-sharing among key players and stakeholders in the industry.

The event highlights NGAP’s ongoing commitment to promoting geothermal energy as a key component of the nation’s sustainable energy mix. It is hosted in partnership with the Department of Energy and New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, the trade development and economic agency of New Zealand.

The theme was crowdsourced from NGAP’s membership. Session names were also given a twist, representing different topic categories within the program while reflecting Filipino values and traits despite the typically international audience.

The program includes: strategies for reliable generation, innovative methods in exploration, development, and production phases, synergy with other industries, emerging technologies, Philippine case studies, and environmental, social, and governance concerns.

It is supported by major companies such as Energy Development Corp., Maibarara Geothermal Inc., Aboitiz Power Corp., Philippine Geothermal Production Company, Wise Industrial Systems, Schlumberger NV, Solenis, RNUABLE Energy Corp., Metal One Corporation, Marubeni-Itochu Tubulars Asia, Welkin Oilfield and Industrial Supplies Corp., Vallourec and 2GO, among others.

To further support geothermal development, the DOE has been driving the establishment of the Philippine Geothermal Resource De-Risking Facility in partnership with the Asian Development Bank (ADB). This fund aims to mitigate the risks related to geothermal exploration, one of the primary hurdles in the industry’s growth.

The Philippines is the third-largest producer of geothermal energy globally, after the US and Indonesia.

NGAP is a scientific, educational, and professional organization that represents geothermal sector stakeholders in the Philippines. Its mission is to advocate, facilitate, and harmonize the global and national research, development, and application of geothermal resources. NGAP is a non-governmental, non-political and non-profit organization.
