Maynilad customers reach 10.5 million

MANILA, Philippines — Maynilad Water Services Inc. is now delivering piped-in water to 10.5 million people in the West Zone, covering almost 95 percent of its service area.
The company said it has 1.55 million active service connections in the West Zone as of end-March, covering 94.7 percent of the concession area.
“This is up from 77.8 percent coverage in 2006, when Maynilad came under new management,” Maynilad said.
The water utility firm said water service availability and pressure in the West Zone have also improved significantly through the years.
Around 96.8 percent of its customers now receive 24-hour water supply compared to 32 percent in 2006, according to Maynilad.
Likewise, 96.8 percent of customers get water at an average pressure of at least seven pounds per square inch (psi) – the minimum required to push water up to the second floor of a structure – up from 45 percent in 2006, it added.
Maynilad noted that it has replaced 3,293 kilometers of aging pipelines since its re-privatization in 2007, equivalent to approximately 72 percent of its inherited pipe network – to help minimize losses and improve network reliability.
“We remain focused on expanding access and sustaining service levels as demand rises,” said Maynilad president and CEO Ramoncito Fernandez.
“It’s a long-term commitment that supports both water security and the well-being of the communities we serve,” he added.
Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base.
It is the concessionaire of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System for the West Zone of the Greater Manila area composed of the cities of Manila (certain portions), Quezon City (certain portions), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon, all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus and the municipalities of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario.
