Philippines to build 8 marine stations
MANILA, Philippines — The government will establish around eight marine scientific stations in biogeographic regions to boost the government’s campaign to protect resources, including the West Philippine Sea (WPS), Environment Secretary Maria Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga said.
“These sentinel stations have unique research programs and will be the site of specific areas of collaboration with scientists from the Philippine academe and like-minded countries who respect a rules-based international order,” Loyzaga said.
The eight marine scientific stations include the upgrading of Tubbataha Reef Ranger Station and Snake Island Station in Palawan and a new research station in Pag-asa Island, she noted.
“We will also establish a research station in collaboration with the private sector and academic and research partners along the Verde Island Passage,” she said.
