Lazada expands operations in Mindanao

MANILA, Philippines — Leading ecommerce platform Lazada has widened its reach in the country after expanding operations and services in Mindanao.
In a statement, Lazada said it held a series of launch events on Feb. 20 at the Arcadia Event Center in Davao City for an introduction to Lazada and to learn best practices for maximizing the platform, in anticipation of its 13th Birthday Sale in March 2025.
“We are committed to delivering the best price and best experience to buyers, sellers, and brands, and we are proud of our expanding presence and ecosystem across the country,” Lazada Philippines CEO Carlos Barrera said.
“Our vision is to empower Filipino-owned businesses, and as eCommerce continues to grow, we remain focused on making it accessible, helping even more Filipinos embrace convenient, digitalized lives,” he said.
Lazada cited insights from a recent TransUnion Consumer Pulse study showing that Mindanao is rapidly growing, with 84 percent of Filipinos in the region feeling optimistic about improving their financial situations.
It emphasized that platforms like Lazada are keen to support this growth and empower the eCommerce ecosystem through strategic initiatives.
During the event, Lazada introduced its “Barato sa Lazada” campaign for shoppers, offering delivery in as fast as four days, up to P120 off on shipping for a minimum spend of P199, Mindanao-exclusive deals and vouchers, as well as easy, free returns.
Additionally, special seller packages for local businesses were unveiled, including a zero percent platform commission fee for 90 days, zero percent promo pass for the first 30 days, a dedicated store consultant, 100 percent sponsored solutions credit, and complimentary 8,000 seller coins.
Lazada has been conducting seller roadshows across Mindanao, culminating in its final leg on Feb. 27 in General Santos City.
The ecommerce platform recently opened its new Davao office located at the 6th floor of the Regus-Felcris Central Mall where local sellers can visit for onboarding, attend workshops and seminars, join campaigns, and enroll in seller programs and other platform-sponsored solutions.
Meanwhile, Lazada is aiming to give customers a smarter and more personalized shopping experience with its suite of GenAI (general artificial intelligence) features.
These include AI Lazzie, Southeast Asia’s first eCommerce chatbot, which acts as a personal shopping assistant.
“It can provide product review summaries, tailored recommendations, image-based searches, a skin analyzer, and virtual try-ons, streamlining customers’ purchasing decision-making,” Lazada said.
