MANILA, Philippines — Spain-based IE University, a highly diverse academic institution that offers a unique learning system to shape future leaders with a global vision, an entrepreneurial mindset and deep respect for sustainability, has expanded into the US – bringing its game-changing act to the financial capital of the world.

IE University has taken over Glasgow Caledonian University and renamed as IE New York College (IENYC). With this replacement, IE University becomes the custodian of a state-of-the-art college with a focus on business and sustainability, and is authorized under federal law to enroll non-immigrant foreign students.

“IE University and the future IENYC have a complementary academic purpose with a focus on driving positive change through education, research and innovation. Both have a major focus on business and on advancing the sustainability agenda,” said IE University CEO Diego del Alcazar.

“This is a unique opportunity which brings with it an injection of energy and also an enormous responsibility. IENYC will work to generate positive impact not only in the higher education global scene, but directly in the city.”

Del Alcazar also sits on the board of Headspring, a joint venture created by IE Business School and the Financial Times Group to design and implement customized education for companies. Passionate about entrepreneurship, he is co-founder and member of the board of the South Summit, the leading startup and innovation conference in Europe and Latin America, and has recently expanded into Asia.

IE University, for its part, is recognized as one of the most innovative universities in the world according to international rankings and is among the world’s top 20 universities for graduate employability. It has a faculty of more than 500 professors who produce high-quality research and teach students from 160 countries in bachelors, masters and executive education programs. Its platform of more than 82,000 alumni is present in 185 countries.

Thus, its support of IENYC reinforces this commitment and will create new opportunities for engagement from both sides of the Atlantic.

Del Alcazar said IENYC will continue to offer graduate programs, including its MS in Business for Social Impact and Sustainability, which will launch a new cohort in January 2025.

IE Foundation, the university’s social arm, recently launched a new scholarship program to support outstanding talent seeking to study at IENYC. This program will be financed with the generous contributions of donors to the IE Foundation General Scholarship Fund and the IE US Fund. To support this program, IE Foundation will allocate funding for eight scholarships covering between 50 and 75 percent of tuition, starting in the February 2025 intake.

Scholarships are available to students of any nationality who meet the academic qualifications for an official master’s program in the US. Candidates interested in this opportunity must complete the program’s admission process and apply for the scholarship through the IENYC Financial Aid Office. Applicants are expected to demonstrate a commitment to social impact and an outstanding academic profile.

“We aim to enhance the experience of international students that go to IENYC, because, at some point, we think that they all want to go and live in New York and second, allow them to interact with the top companies in the world, which are based basically in the capital of the corporate world, which is New York City,” said Del Alcazar.

“We’re going to be very focused in sustainability, in the intersection with business and technology.”
