DMCI, EEI bag P5.1 billion contracts for Cavitex links

MANILA, Philippines — The Metro Pacific Group has awarded P5.09 billion in contracts to build connector roads for the Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX) to D.M. Consunji Inc. (DMCI) and EEI Corp.

Metro Pacific subsidiary Cavitex Infrastructure Corp. (CIC), the concessionaire for CAVITEX, is scheduled to start in June the civil works for CAVITEX links to C5 Road and to Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX).

In line with this, CIC awarded to DMCI the P3.3 billion contract to put up Segment 3B, the final portion of the CAVITEX C5 Link.

Once the section is completed, motorists may travel from Cavite to Taguig City without having to go through service roads. CIC president and general manager Raul Ignacio said DMCI would be given 450 days to finish the segment, or until August 2025.

“This is a milestone for the CAVITEX C5 Link as it marks the construction of the last remaining segment. Soon, motorists would benefit from the entire 7.7 kilometer expressway stretching from CAVITEX R1 to C5 Road in Taguig,” Ignacio said.

To date, motorists can use the initial portions of the CAVITEX C5 Link, including Segment 3A-1 between C5 Link Flyover to Merville and Segment 3A-2, or the C5 Link Flyover Extension.

Ignacio said Segment 2, or the R1 Interchange, is under construction, but CIC hopes to open the section to motorists by June.

Likewise, CIC issued to EEI the P1.79 billion deal to build the CAVITEX-CALAX Link, viewed as one of the most crucial connector roads in Southern Tagalog.

EEI will construct a 1.2 kilometer road bridging the Kawit toll plazas of CAVITEX and CALAX. Similar to the DMCI contract, Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. president and CEO Rogelio Singson said EEI would be given a maximum of 450 days to finish the project.

“CIC is committed to ensuring the best road quality for its infrastructure, adhering to the highest standards for the safety of motorists. This project will enhance the economic activities of Cavite, Laguna and National Capital Region,” Singson said.

At present, the operational parts of CAVITEX span around 14 kilometers, from R1 Expressway (formerly Coastal Road) to R1 Extension (Zapote to Kawit).

Meanwhile, motorists may go through CALAX all the way to the Aguinaldo Interchange, but the concessionaire is working to extend it toward Kawit, Cavite as designed.
