New Metro Supermarket breaks ground in Cebu
MANILA, Philippines — Metro Retail Stores Group Inc. (MRSGI), the listed supermarket operator owned by the Gaisano Group, has expanded its footprint in Cebu.
It recently broke ground on a new Metro Supermarket in the municipality of Dalaguete, Cebu.
The soon-to-rise store is expected to offer quality goods and services and also provide employment opportunities to the community, contributing to the overall economic growth of Dalaguete, said MRSGI president and COO Manuel Alberto.
“The vision of Metro Supermarket goes beyond providing goods and services. It is a commitment to being a responsible corporate citizen, supporting local initiatives, and becoming an integral part of the fabric of our community,” Alberto said.
“With the support of the local government and the active participation of our residents, this vision will undoubtedly become a reality,” he also said.
Last December, MRSGI also opened Metro Supermarket in Alangalang, Leyte.
MRSGI currently operates 64 stores across the Visayas and Luzon regions, encompassing store formats – Metro Supermarket, Metro Department Store, Super Metro Hypermarket, and Metro Value Mart.
The company recorded a net income of P254.6 million in the first nine months of 2023, down by 36.5 percent from the P400.7 million net income in the same period last year.
The decline was primarily due to higher operating expenses partially offset by the improvement in gross margin.
Total net sales during the nine-month period reached P26.5 billion, slightly unchanged versus the previous year.
