Move It to submit safety records

MANILA, Philippines — Motorcycle taxi service provider Move It is set to submit its safety data to the government in response to questions as to whether the company is practicing the best transport standards.

Move It general manager Wayne Jacinto said in a statement the company is cooperating with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in validating the safety records of motorcycle taxis.

Jacinto said the government could be certain that Move It adheres to security standards, adding that one of the seven pledges of the company is to bring passengers to their destination safely.

According to Jacinto, the Move It app has the ability to check how riders drive.

This allows Move It to identify which skills and values its drivers have to improve on.

He added the motorcycle taxi platform currently maintains a safety rating of 99.9 percent.

He attributed this feat to the technologies that it gets from ride-hailing giant Grab Philippines, its owner and operator.

Grab serves Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, boasting a safety score of 99.9 percent across Southeast Asia.

“One of the strengths of our Move It app is the ability to closely monitor how our partner-riders drive,” Jacinto said.

“With this information – as well as customer feedback – we can monitor the behavior and assess the driving skills of drivers, and emphasize specific areas for improvement or require additional training,” he said.

Move It, one of the three motorcycle taxis, recently faced regulatory challenges, especially from Congress.

Metro Manila development committee chairman Rolando Valeriano wants Move It banned from the streets over the alleged violation of its merger with Grab.

At present, motorcycle taxi service providers like Move It are regulated by a pilot study handled by a technical working group (TWG) organized by the Department of Transportation.
