Lazada highlights ESG commitment

MANILA, Philippines — Lazada, the leading e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia, released its annual environment, social and governance (ESG) impact report to highlight its  commitment to leverage e-commerce as a force for good, based on four core pillars under its ESG framework that were unveiled last year.

These four pillars are: Empowering Communities, Future-Ready Workforce, Environmental Stewardship, and Effective Governance.

The Empowering Communities pillar bolsters over 1.1 million stakeholders across six markets in Southeast Asia by providing essential infrastructure, services, and a slew of new employment opportunities. Through holistic support offered to seller-partners, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) see their businesses take flight in the digital landscape by bridging partnerships with prominent entrepreneurial groups, local government units, and chambers of commerce.

Training programs such as Lazada University and Masterclasses, are easily accessible avenues for sellers to learn and apply integral concepts such as brand awareness building and operations at any business level.

Under Future-Ready Workforce, Lazada offers a comprehensive range of programs and benefits designed to support the physical, mental and emotional well-being of employees. In the Philippines, fitness programs are available for employees at the recently opened local headquarters in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig, where open and bright spaces promote an entrepreneurial mindset and collaboration among teams.

Lazada strives to minimize the impact of operations on the environment, in the interest of Environmental Stewardship, by prioritizing reduced resource depletion and overall carbon footprint. Indicative of this, Lazada’s overall greenhouse gas emissions have been cut by 10 percent.

Under Effective Governance, Lazada has established a robust governance structure prioritizing responsible business practices, safeguarding data privacy and intellectual property rights. During the reporting period Lazada achieved zero substantiated complaints concerning breaches of customer privacy or losses of customer data across its operations.

Carlos Barrera, CEO of Lazada Philippines, emphasized that ESG remains an important aspect of the company’s brand.

“At Lazada, sustainability will continue to be at the core of everything we do. We understand how this is important to making the digital economy thrive here, and enabling sustainable development for the country. By integrating ESG into our business and working with our partners, we can keep making the lives of millions of Filipinos better, and help build a sustainable future,” he said.
