Globe expands global 5G roaming presence
MANILA, Philippines — Wireless giant Globe Telecom Inc. has brought its 5G services to 11 new countries and territories across the world as part of efforts to widen its global reach.
In an advisory, Globe said that it brought its 5G roaming to Austria and Malaysia through tie-ups with T-Mobile and Digi Telecommunications, respectively.
Likewise, Globe partnered with CTM to bring its 5G capabilities to Macau; with AT&T to Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico; and with Wind Tre to Vatican City.
On the other hand, Globe made its 5G services available in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales via a deal with EE. It also collaborated with MegaFon to serve Russia, and worked with Docomo Pacific to reach the Northern Mariana Islands.
Globe also enhanced its 5G roaming in Europe by signing fresh partnerships with telco providers operating in the region. In particular, Globe improved its roaming quality and speed in Denmark, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia and Switzerland.
Also, Globe said travelers from Egypt, Isle of Man, Mexico, Romania and Sri Lanka can access its 5G services when they visit the Philippines.
Globe vice president for postpaid and international business Coco Domingo said the mobile giant can now serve 5G roaming in a total of 67 countries and territories worldwide.
Domingo said that Globe wants to enhance the telco experience for Filipinos even when they go abroad, especially as they start to regain their confidence in traveling.
“With a 5G footprint spanning 67 countries and territories, we are thrilled to offer customers fast and reliable connectivity while they travel around the world. We also paired their 5G experience with Globe data roaming promos that are now affordable and accessible to our customers via the GlobeOne app,” Domingo said.
“Now, [subscribers] can skip the hassle of switching to a local SIM or bringing an extra device to stay connected. As customers regain the confidence to explore once more, Globe will be there to deliver cutting-edge technology and innovative solutions to make lives better,” he added.
Compared to 4G, 5G offers faster speeds and lower latency that allows customers to play games, stream videos, and surf online without interruption.
For this year, Globe has rolled back its budget for capital expenditures to $1.3 billion from a record $1.9 billion in 2022, as it looks to optimize the existing assets it has to expand its user base.
