MORE Power boosting capacity in Iloilo City

MANILA, Philippines — Enrique Razon-led MORE Electric and Power Corp. is set to boost Iloilo City’s power capacity and reliability with the completion of a new substation.

MORE Power, Iloilo City’s electric distribution utility, said it has energized its 30/36 megavolt amperes New Megaworld Substation located in the Iloilo Business Park, the company’s first permanent substation project since taking over operations in February 2020.

The completion of the New Megaworld Substation will allow MORE Power to provide a more stable and reliable power supply to its customers in Iloilo City.

With the substation now operational, MORE Power president and chief executive officer Roel Castro said the Iloilo Business Park and its surrounding areas would have a more stable and reliable power supply, making it an ideal location for businesses looking to invest in Iloilo City.

MORE Power worked in partnership with property giant Megaworld Corp., allowing the use of their property as the substation site.

The power firm said its engineers were able to fit everything without sacrificing the substation’s operation, safety, and reliability despite the property’s compact area.

“The energization of the substation marks a significant milestone for MORE Power, in fulfilling its mandate of providing reliable and cost-efficient electric power distribution service to Iloilo City,” Castro said.

“We are fully committed to the upgrading of the power infrastructures here to meet the needs of our customers and support the economic growth of the city,” he said.

MORE Power said the substation is equipped with modern machinery and technology, including a digital interface for easy connection to smart grid applications, and online dissolved gas analyzer for all gases.

The company said the substation’s protection features include a transformer differential protection that protects the power transformer from external and internal faults, and modernized overcurrent protection relays that are coordinated with other line protection devices for a more robust and reliable supply of power.

“With the company’s ongoing upgrading and rehabilitation of electric power infrastructures, Iloilo City can look forward to a brighter future and a more robust economy,” MORE Power said.

In 2020, MORE Power took control of the Iloilo City distribution assets of Panay Electric Co.

MORE Power has since embarked on intensive modernization efforts and programs to deliver improved and better services to the city.
