Without a soul

BUSINESS MATTERS (BEYOND THE BOTTOM LINE) - Francis J. Kong - The Philippine Star

Have you ever come across personalities on social media posting stuff claiming and feigning expertise they do not have? You have “Leadership Gurus” who have never led people and organizations; “Investment and Money Experts” whose personal finances are in shambles. You have “Entrepreneurs” teaching doing business when their own entrepreneurial experiences have not worked out well, but now they are teaching their “expertise” all over the place. You even have speakers, trainers, and faith-based religious leaders plagiarizing other people’s work and claiming that the materials are their own. It is hard to decipher who the real experts are from the self-proclaimed gurus, and the news is that it will even be harder this year and in years to come. Let me prove this to you.

Read the following, and after you have done so, I will tell you why and how to prepare ourselves for the future. The following materials deal with forecasting future business trends. So, here it is.

“It’s difficult to make precise predictions about the future of business, especially when looking as far ahead as 2023. However, there are a few trends and developments that are worth considering.

One of the biggest trends in business over the past few years has been the rise of automation and artificial intelligence. This trend is likely to continue in the coming years, with more and more businesses adopting AI-powered tools and technologies to improve efficiency and productivity. This could lead to major disruptions in the job market, as some jobs become obsolete due to automation while others are created to support the new technology.

Another important trend is the increasing importance of sustainability and environmental concerns. As consumers become more aware of their purchasing decisions’ impact on the planet, businesses will need to adapt by offering more sustainable products and services. This could lead to a shift towards renewable energy, eco-friendly packaging, and other sustainable business practices.

The ongoing digital transformation is also likely to continue to shape the business landscape in 2023. As more and more businesses move online and rely on technology for their operations, the demand for skilled workers in fields like web development, data analysis, and cybersecurity will only increase.

In addition, we can expect to see a growing emphasis on diversity and inclusion in the business world. As companies increasingly recognize the value of having a diverse workforce and customer base, they will need to implement policies and practices that support and promote diversity. This could include things like unconscious bias training, flexible work arrangements, and diversity and inclusion initiatives.

Overall, the business world in 2023 is likely to be marked by continued technological advancements, a growing focus on sustainability, and a push for greater diversity and inclusion. These trends will present both challenges and opportunities for businesses, and those that are able to adapt and innovate will be best positioned to succeed in this changing landscape.”

Now that you have read this, I would like you to know that I DID NOT WRITE THIS PIECE! I typed in, “Give me an article that deals with the future of business for 2023.” In less than 60 seconds, an article was provided by the latest craze in an open-sourced AI platform called ChatGPT. A report two weeks ago indicated that “two million people signed up for ChatGPT in the first 10 days, making it the fastest technological adoption in history. The primary impact is that now everyone is a content creator, strategist, and marketer.” It is akin to a speaker/trainer/ self-proclaimed guru/entrepreneur using the material of another. However, a discerning, experienced, and knowledgeable reader can quickly point out that this artificial intelligence platform has provided an article that churns out facts but does not have a “soul” in it. There needs to be more insight, perspicuity, and wisdom which obviously AI does not provide.

ChatGPT has become so powerful that it “threatens the existence of Google Search.”

With all the hype on Metaverse, Web 3, 6G, so forth, and so on, ChatGPT is quietly sneaking itself as it occupies a bigger space in terms of our digital life dependence.

I am sure that the self-proclaimed gurus and experts will now have a tool that can generate content, but as this proliferates, people will clamor for deeper insights and wisdom that technology cannot provide. Perhaps one day, AI-churned materials will be indistinguishable from those that come from human experts, but for now, it does not.

My instinct has proven me right. And this is why I will only work with speakers who are real practitioners and experts in their chosen field or craft. They are the ones who are endowed with years of experience, insight, and wisdom. That is the soul part of training, teaching, writing, and presentations that cannot be compromised.
