iAcademy first to offer courses in game development

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — ICT-focused school iAcademy has started offering an industry-first undergraduate degree program in game development, a thriving sector that has skyrocketed into a $150-billion industry during the pandemic.

“A game developer’s skill set is somewhere in between the skills of an IT, computer science practitioner and a multimedia artist. So the career path of a game development student is practically limitless,” said Carl Louie So, program coordinator of iAcademy’s Game Development Program.

Aside from the traditional programs for leisure and entertainment, gamification in marketing is also an excellent tool and has been used by different companies. These include interactive videos, gamified AR filters, gamified surveys, playable ads and branded mini-games.

The gaming industry has likewise increased the need for game developers and solidified the need for schools to offer game development programs.

iAcademy is the first to offer a bachelor degree on game development and has been a UNITY training and certification partner. UNITY Game Engine is a cross-platform game engine developed by Unity Techonologies. The UNITY Game Engine supports 25 platforms and can be used to create 3D, 2D, virtual reality, and augmented reality games.

The iAcademy Game Development Program is anchored on the following principles: programming, design, art and storytelling. These basic principles combined with a faculty of industry practitioners is basically the perfect combination to create game-changers in the industry.

iAcademy has been holding career clinics to students and aspiring developers. To date, they have reached over a 1,000 students coming from different schools all over the country.
