MANILA, Philippines— Budget carriers Cebu Pacific and CebGo on Sunday announced they have cancelled some flights in the next two days due to an "unprecedented level of disruption."

"Over the past several days, we have seen an unprecedented level of disruption to our operation and our passengers have experienced extended delays and some cancellations," Cebu Pacific said in its advisory.

Cebu Pacific has flights in and out of Clark International Airport in Pampanga, which had to be closed due to damage from a powerful earthquake on Monday. The closure only lasted for less than 48 hours but prompted the cancellation of domestic and international flights of Cebu Pacific.

Following the incident, Cebu Pacific decided to reduce flights especially in its Manila hub “to create more space in its schedule for operational recovery and minimize rolling delays.”

It said it is working with the authorities, regulatory agencies and other stakeholders to provide better service to its passengers.

“Efforts have been made to minimize the disruption to our passengers in the past week. However, we realize that current operating conditions, particularly in our Manila hub, necessitate a temporary reduction of flights,” the carrier said.

“These flight cancellations should help stabilize flight timings, improve on time performance and reduce inconvenience to our passengers,” it added.

The airline advised affected passengers that can opt for the following options:

  • Rebook flights for travel within 30 days from original departure date, free of charge
  • Get a full refund
  • Place the full cost of the ticket in a Travel Fund
  • Re-route to / from alternate airports for travel within 30 days, subject to availability of seats

It added that "passengers on the cancelled flights will receive one round-trip travel voucher which they can use for future flights."

The airline apologized for the inconvenience the flight schedules have caused its passengers.
