Online hiring spikes 17% in December 2018
MANILA, Philippines — Online hiring activity in the country finished 2018 on a strong note as it rose by 17 percent year-on-year in December behind the continued expansion of the economy, according to employment website Monster.com.
“Online hiring in the Philippines has been consistently high for the year and will likely remain so in the coming year as well,” said Abhijeet Mukherjee, chief executive officer of Monster.com for APAC and Middle East.
“In its World Economic Situation and Prospects 2019 report, the United Nations said they project the Philippines’ GDP growth to be 6.5 percent in 2019, up from 6.3 percent in 2018. The government is stepping up implementation of Build Build Build program, paving the way forward for economic growth which will further drive hiring growth,” Mukherjee said.
The hospitality industry recorded the highest growth for December with a 34 percent year-on-year increase.
This was followed by healthcare and retail industries with 33 percent and 32 percent year-on-year jump, respectively.
Other industries such as logistics, BFSI (banking, financial services, and insurance), and advertising also saw robust double-digit growth numbers.
The only industry that posed a decline out of 12 industries monitored by Monster.com was education, posting an eight percent year-on-year drop.
Meanwhile, all the occupation categories monitored by the Monster Employment Index (MEI) registered improvement in December.
