‘Indiepreneurs’ to take center stage at this year’s OCEAN Summit
MANILA, Philippines — “Indiepreneurs” — or independent entrepreneurs who have the potential to scale up and shake up their sectors — will hog the limelight at this year’s Open Collaboration with East Asian Networks (OCEAN) Summit next week.
“The main focus of OCEAN18 is finding indiepreneurs that are leading initiatives with high impact and scalability,” said Winston Damarillo, executive chairman of Amihan Global Strategies and OCEAN18 chairperson.
“We hope that this cross-sector synergy will create jobs, better economic opportunities, and boost global recognition for local leaders driving Philippine innovation,” he added.
OCEAN is a biennial gathering in the Philippines that “connects cross-sector leaders to new ideas that will shape the country’s future.”
The OCEAN18 Summit will happen on November 9 to 10 at Chateau by the Sea in Mactan, Cebu. Since its beginning in 2014, the gathering has welcomed hundreds of indiepreneurs and industry leaders who seek to build a better business environment in the Philippines.
This year, OCEAN18 will focus on six “high-impact” sectors, namely: Creative economy, education, food, global Filipino engagement, healthcare and tourism.
“By cultivating innovation in these areas, these sic strategic sectors have the potential to create jobs, better economic opportunities and boost global recognition for local leaders driving Philippine innovation,” Damarillo explained.
OCEAN18 is a collaborative effort among organizations, which include independent initiatives of the World Economic Forum like the Global Shapers Communities of the Philippines.
