Airlines resume flights to Caticlan, Kalibo for Boracay reopening

MANILA, Philippines— Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific have announced that they are resuming flights to Caticlan and Kalibo in anticipation of the reopening of world-famous Boracay island on October 26.

In its advisory, PAL said the flights between Manila and Caticlan, Cebu and Caticlan, as well as Cebu and Kalibo will resume for the island’s reopening.

Both PAL and Cebu reminded its passengers that those with booked flights for Caticlan and Kalibo are required to show proof of confirmed hotel bookings before entering the island.

The airline policy was implemented after the Department of Tourism said it would also enforce a "no booking / no entry policy." The DOT said it would set up a verification booth at the Caticlan Airport and the Kalibo International Airport.

The airlines advised its passengers to book their stay with officially-compliant establishments.

The DOT earlier named 68 establishments that complied with the requirements of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the Department of Interior and Local Government.

“Only guests with confirmed reservations at any of the accommodation establishments that are compliant with the requirements of the Department of Tourism, Department of Interior and Local Government and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources will be allowed to enter Boracay Island,” Cebu Pacific said in its advisory.

“To avoid any possible inconvenience, we strongly advise guests who are travelling or planning to go to Boracay Island starting October 26, 2018 to check if their chosen hotel or resort has been certified compliant and permitted to operate,” it added.

Boracay has been closed to tourists last April 26 after President Rodrigo Duterte highlighted its environmental woes. The president ordered its six-month closure to pave way for its rehabilitation.

The island had a dry-run opening last October 15 and opened its doors to local tourists. It is set for "soft opening" to both local and foreign tourists on October 26.

Meanwhile, PAL also released the list of flights that will resume for the island reopening.
