Rockwell Land keen on Cebu expansion

Iris Gonzales - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Rockwell Land Corp., the listed property developer of the Lopez Group, plans to continue expanding its operations in Cebu with more residential projects after successfully launching its first residential-resort development.

The company launched last month the P6.2 billion Aruga Resort and Residences, located on a 4.7-hectare property along Punta Engano. The development will have villas and a hotel tower facing an expansive beachfront, said Rockwell vice president Christopher Gecha in a briefing in Mactan over the weekend.

“We’re looking at several properties around the city and around Mactan. We’re looking at residential developments and hotels,” he told reporters.

Aruga Resort is targeted for completion in 2022 for the residential development while the hotel will be completed in 2024.

The development will feature sky suites on its upper floors with panoramic views of the 250 meter beachfront and will also have private villas which will give guests direct access to the beach.

Gecha said growth prospects in Cebu are rosy, especially with the new airport and a host of other infrastructure developments such as new roads.

Since Aruga’s launch in August, the company has already sold nearly 50 percent of the units.

Aruga in Cebu is located just 10 kilometres from the Mactan-Cebu International Airport and is in the company of several other sprawling developments including casinos within the beachfront strip.

This comes only four years after Rockwell Land’s first foray in Cebu through 32 Sanson by Rockwell in Lahug.

In 2014, the company launched 32 Sanson with two towers, Gmelina and Raffia.

The development received positive reception for the two towers, which have already sold out and turned over in 2016.

Rockwell launched the property’s third tower, Buri, with a few units remaining, with turn over scheduled in 2019.

Last year, the company also launched a fourth tower, Solihiya which is also receiving positive feedback.

Apart from the four towers, the company is also working on another tower, Gecha said.

With 32 Sanson and the launch of Aruga Resort and Residences – Mactan, Cebu, Rockwell looks forward to the continued success of the beginning of penetration in the provincial market while it remains on the move, he added.

On the company’s expansion outside Metro Manila, Gecha said expansion for Rockwell would continue in the north and south of Manila.

Rockwell Land is a major property player in Metro Manila known for its high-end projects starting with its flagship Rockwell mixed-use development in Makati.

In recent years, it has also made its foray in socialized housing.
