MANILA, Philippines— Several domestic and international flights remained grounded on Sunday, August 19 due to excessive flight delays in the past days, according to the Manila International Airport Authority.

The Ninoy Aquino International Airport runway was closed for almost 36 hours after a Xiamen Air passenger aircraft that skidded upon landing on Thursday evening. The aircraft was stuck in a muddy field due to the bad weather affecting several flights.

On Friday alone, over 150 international and domestic flights were canceled and more than 17 international flights were diverted to Clark and Cebu International Airports as NAIA operations were paralyzed by the runway closure.
