MPIC readies Cavitex expansion
MANILA, Philippines — Metro Pacific Investments Corp. unit Cavitex Infrastructure Corp. (CIC) is set to start next month the construction for the second phase of enhancement works for the Cavite Expressway (Cavitex).
CIC president Luigi Bautista said the company would spend P300 million for Phase 2, which will involve the widening of three bridges at the Wawa, Las Piñas area.
“At the moment it has three lanes in each direction, so by the time we finish the widening, it will become four lanes each,” he said.
Phase 2 is targeted to be completed by April or May next year.
CIC yesterday opened two out of the four lanes of the Southbound flyover which is part of Phase 1 enhancement works.
“This partial opening will help ease traffic while we continue with the rest of Phase 1 of the construction enhancement works. We expect to complete the Phase 1 by the end of the month or early September. We have positioned traffic marshals to guide and direct motorists as they accustom themselves to using the facility,” Bautista said.
Phase 1 involves widening the expressway by adding one lane on both directions, as well as construction of a flyover on the southbound lane on the intersection of Pacific Ave.
“To fully experience the travel convenience in CAVITEX, we strongly encourage our motorists to avail of our RFID payment mode. The RFID is more convenient and faster as compared to cash payment, motorists will experience faster travel from the flyover and through the toll plazas,” Bautista said.
Bautista said investment cost for the first two phases is at P1.1 billion.
The CAVITEX is part of a road network being expanded by Metro Pacific Tollways Corp., the road infrastructure arm of MPIC.
