MANILA, Philippines — Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC) unit Cavitex Infrastructure Corp. (CIC) expects to complete the feasibility study for the proposed Segment 5 covering Kawit to Rosario in Cavite of the Manila-Cavite Toll Expressway (CAVITEX) by January next year.

“We’re finishing up the feasibility study. We will complete it in January,” CIC president Luigi Bautista said.

Segment 5 of CAVITEX is a 9.5-kilometer toll road which would connect Kawit to Noveleta and up to Rosario in Cavite.

Based on initial pre-feasibility studies conducted by CIC, the construction is estimated to cost approximately P12 billion.

After the feasibility study is completed, Bautista said CIC would submit the business proposal to the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) in February.

“If the TRB approves it, we will start completing detailed engineering design and then we go to implementation,” he said.

CIC is currently working on the expansion of the CAVITEX.

Bautista said earlier, CIC is spending P700 million for the expansion and enhancements.

In particular, one lane is being added in each direction of the CAVITEX.

Apart from adding lanes, Bautista said CIC is also building a flyover along the expressway so those coming from the south going to Pacific Drive would no longer have to stop at the traffic light.

CIC is also improving the road surface of Pacific Drive or from R-1 to Macapagal.

MPIC, through tollway arm Metro Pacific Tollways Corp., also operates the North Luzon Expressway and Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway.
