DMCI Power sales grow 14% last year

MANILA, Philippines - Off-grid power producer DMCI Power Corp. (DPC) recorded double-digit sales growth in 2016 on the back of increased electricity demand and capacity during the period.

The company said sales volume reached 240 gigawatt-hours (gwh) last year, up 14 percent from 212 gwh the previous year.

DPC attributed the growth to higher power demand and dispatch across all cooperatives covered by the power producer.

“We are pleased to serve the growing electricity demand in our service areas. With our continued partnership with local cooperatives, we can deliver reliable electricity to even more off-grid communities,” DPC president Nestor Dadivas said in a statement.

DPC has long-term power supply agreements with Palawan Electric Cooperative (Paleco), Oriental Mindoro Electric Cooperative (Ormeco) and Masbate Electric Cooperative (Maselco).

In particular, Palawan registered the highest sales growth at 17 percent from 78 gwh to 91.27 gwh due to the increased economic activity in the province and the installation of a satellite plant in Brooke’s Point.

Power sales to Ormeco grew 11 percent from 46.24 gwh to 51.76 gwh due mainly to the full year operations of DPC’s 15-megawatt bunker-fired diesel power plant in Calapan City.

Meanwhile, dispatch to Maselco advanced 11 percent from 85.81 gwh to 94.91 gwh, following a five percent uptick in the cooperative’s line connections.

In the past six years, DPC has invested P3.5 billion worth of power projects in missionary areas, covering four small-scale diesel and bunker-fired facilities in Masbate (July 2010), Palawan (December 2012), Oriental Mindoro (2016) and Sultan Kudarat (2016).

It was scheduled to commercially operate a P620-million, 2x4.95-MW bunker-fired power plant in Aborlan, Palawan by end-2016.

Later this year, the company is switching on its P900-million 3x6.3-MW bunker-fired power plant in Irawan, Puerto Princesa.
