Movenpick ramps up Southeast Asian expansion

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Swiss hospitality firm Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts is ramping up its expansion in Southeast Asia with the opening of new properties in the region, including several upscale hotels and resorts in the Philippines.

The company said Mövenpick Siam Hotel Pattaya in Thailand, Mövenpick Resort Boracay in the Philippines, and  Mövenpick Resort & Spa Jimbaran in Indonesia are all set for opening next year.

“We are rapidly cementing a solid presence in South East Asia, where we have identified strong growth opportunities for the upscale hospitality concepts Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts delivers,” Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts senior vice president for Asia Andrew Langdon said.

Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts in August this year signed a deal with the group of former ambassador Alfredo Yao to manage the Sol Marina Resort, which will soon be renamed Mövenpick Resort Boracay.

Yao earlier said developments of a Baguio hotel and a Palawan resort to be operated Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts would also commence next year.

The Swiss upscale hotel and resorts management company has partnered with various investors in the country for the development of several upscale hotel and resort complexes.

Aside from properties set to be launched for next year, Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts said it has recently signed deals to manage a five-star resort in Kelantan, Malaysia and an integrated beachfront resort in Khanh Hoa Province, Vietnam.

Both properties are targeted to open in 2018.

“With the new properties signed for Vietnam and Malaysia, we see our cluster strategies for these exciting markets start to be realized, while our debuts in new countries mark another milestone in our strategy to be a major player in a region where we plan to open at least 15 new properties by 2020,” Langdon said.

Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts specializes in business and conference hotels as well as holiday resorts. It is present in 25 countries with 83 hotels and resorts and over 16,000 staff members.
