New mobile game app rides the AlDub wave

MANILA, Philippines - Capitalizing on the hugely popular AlDub tandem, Tape Inc., the company behind the longest noontime show Eat Bulaga, has partnered with listed technology firm Xurpas Inc. to invade the mobile game market.

In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE), Xurpas said the love team of Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza, popularly known as AlDub, now has a mobile game application.

With the mobile game, AlDub fans can play the role of the two television personalities.

“Fans fantasize about Alden and Yaya Dub. Now you can be Alden... through the mobile game,” said Jenny Ferre, senior vice president of Tape.

Tape, a company owned by the Tuviera family, is the producer of Eat Bulaga as well as other television programs.

“The game is tightly integrated into Eat Bulaga’s top-rating kalyeserye. The game is part of the story,” Ferre said.

Xurpas chairman and CEO Nix Nolledo welcomed the partnership.

“We’re absolutely excited to work with a property as massive as AlDub,” Nolledo said.

AlDub is now considered a global phenomenon by online social networking service Twitter.

With every new episode, AlDub sets new records on Twitter.

On Oct. 24, it set the world record of garnering 41 million tweets in a single day, surpassing the FIFA World Cup and the Papal visit.

With the launch of the mobile game, AlDub now looks to set a new record in the mobile games space.

The game is already available for download on Google Play.

Mobile games have driven the growth of Xurpas this year. In its third quarter financial report, Xurpas  said its revenues have already  surpassed the half a billion-peso mark year-to- date.
