Globe expects P100B revenues for 2015

MANILA, Philippines – Globe Telecom Inc. expects its revenues to hit P100 billion this year amid anticipated continued growth across postpaid, prepaid and data.

Globe chief commercial officer Albert de Larrazabal said the company is on track to generate P100 billion worth of revenues this year, noting strong demand from postpaid, prepaid and data.

“(There) is a lot of growth, actually across the board. Postpaid is growing. Prepaid is growing. Data is growing. The only thing that’s soft is the international which is something that’s been the trend in the last three years for the whole industry. Aside from that, everything is growing,” he said.

Globe’s consolidated service revenues amounted to P83.4 billion from January to September, 15 percent higher than the P72.7 billion a year ago.

The latest consolidated service revenue result was due to the sustained strong performance across all business segments covering mobile, broadband and fixed line.

De Larrazabal also said the firm is looking at forging partnerships to help further grow the business.

“We like to tie up with people that can help us grow and hopefully, we help them as well. (There will be) more of this to come,” he said.

The most recent partnership forged by Globe is with Cherry Mobile, for the launch of the new Cherry Prepaid SIM and phone bundles.

The prepaid service dubbed as Cherry Prepaid powered by Globe, was unveiled last week with the aim to provide mass market mobile connectivity through high quality handsets and prepaid service into one affordable package.

With flexible starter options like the Cherry Prepaid SIM and phone bundles for as low as P399 and a SIM-only option for only P29, users can immediately call, text, and surf the Internet.

Globe president and chief executive officer Ernest Cu said the co-branding agreement forms part of the telco’s commitment to promote the digital lifestyle in the mass market segment.

“With competition in the mobile industry getting more intense and cutthroat, this co-branding agreement will allow us to explore business models that will generate new revenue streams as well as strengthen our position in the prepaid segment and as the network of choice for smartphone users,” he said.

Dan Horan, senior advisor for consumer business group at Globe said the recent partnership is likewise expected to bring in an additional two to three million subscribers for the telco.

As of end-September, Globe’s mobile subscriber base stood at 50.1 million.
