ICTSI launches app to track cargo

Louella Desiderio - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Port operator International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) is rolling out a mobile application that would enable customers of the Manila International Container Terminal (MICT) to track their containers, in line with its plan to introduce new technologies for enhanced operations.

“The MICT mobile app is just one of the many innovations that MICT has in the pipeline.  It’s a solid first step towards the technological advancements that we want to implement at the terminal,” MICT commercial director Christian Lozano said in a statement.

The app, which is available for both iOS and Android users, is designed to immediately deliver information to port users.

The app’s version 1.0 has a Track and Trace system allowing port users to check the status of their import and export shipment, truck entry and exit times, as well as vessel arrival and departure schedules.

The app likewise has e-mail support which enables users to to get real-time service from MICT’s customer care department.

ICTSI plans to introduce additional features in upcoming versions of the app as it looks for ways to better serve customers.

“This will allow us to fine-tune each feature before adding other features to the app,” Lozano said.

Among the added features MICT users can expect in the upcoming versions of the app are the billing calculator, client dashboard, MICT advisory, MICT EYES or closed circuit television footage, online payment and the recently launched Terminal Appointment Booking System (TABS) or online container booking system.

ICTSI first made available the TABS last month to minimize traffic and prevent container build-up given the holiday season and congestion in Metro Manila.

ICTSI won the concession to operate the MICT in an international tender in 1988.

Aside from MICT in the Philippines, ICTSI is involved in other terminal concessions and port development projects in countries such as Indonesia, Brunei, Japan, China, US, Ecuador, Brazil, Poland, Georgia, Madagascar, Croatia, Pakistan, India, Mexico, Honduras, Iraq, Argentina, Colombia, Congo, Australia and Nigeria.
