Enfinity installs solar panels to power Tarlac LGU offices

MANILA, Philippines - The local unit of Belgium-based solar developer Enfinity N.V. has installed solar-powered panels in the town of Concepcion in Tarlac to power up its municipal and barangay halls.

In a statement, Enfinity Philippines said the municipal government of Concepcion would be one of the first local government units in the country to adopt the use of solar energy in its facilities.

The solar developer has installed a 10-kilowatt (kw) solar panel that can power up to eight window-type air-conditioners and 3-kw solar panels for each Concepcion barangay office.

Enfinity Philippines business development director William Ruccius said the company hopes to replicate the project in areas where they are set to operate solar farms.

“We would like to do something like this in all the communities where we are operating wherever practical.  It might be a different building or school – wherever it will do the most good and inform the most people,” added Ruccius.

Currently, Enfinity Philippines has secured seven sites for solar projects – four of which are in Concepcion, Tarlac; Clark, Pampanga; Digos, Davao; and in Cavite.

These four plants are scheduled for completion by year-end with a total capacity of 100 megawatts (MW).

Other locations have yet to be disclosed by the company.

Enfinity Philippines recently held the groundbreaking for the P3.6-billion Concepcion project and is now securing land for the expansion of the plant for an end-2016 completion.

For the municipal government of Concepcion, Mayor Andres Lacson said the installed solar panels will give the LGU total savings of P18,000 a month or over P200,000 per year.
